Assignment #2

This piece was intended to depict the inability to run away that sometimes occurs in nightmares. The stretchy fabric that is staked into the ground yanking me back down to the ground as I struggle to run away.

Quickie #5

Assignment #1 Statement

The peacock feathers attached to suspenders were created to show the contrast between mating rituals found in nature and those found in our American society. In the natural world of birds, the males often have more colorful plumage in order to attract a mate. The male peacocks will display their mass of beautifully colored tail feathers when they see a female they want to attract. In contrast, the woman is thought to be the prettier sex in American culture and will often adorn herself with make-up and jewelry to live up to the reputation and attract the opposite sex. When the fabric feather and wire structure is worn by a cocky male trying to "pick up chicks," the piece shows the humor in this difference.
